Alexander Yulish’s paintings are expressive and figurative in nature, employing colored acrylic paint with gestural markings to depict distorted human faces and figures. In the words of Nicole Borgenicht of Crave, “the dynamic works… are wildly creative and insightful” and Elizabeth Baudouin of Bullet Media describes Yulish’s paintings as “vibrant, fluid, complex, and a little mad.”
Yulish draws inspiration for his paintings from conversations, people, and events in his everyday life. When asked about his “muse,” Yulish states: “everything affects the work—people, the weather, an argument. I don’t have a muse per say but an emotional dialogue with life.” Each painting is highly personal to Yulish, but the majority of his paintings are not self-portraits.
Born into an artistic family, Alexander Yulish has engaged the language of painting from an early age. He attended Columbia Prep and Connecticut College before moving to Los Angeles.
