About the Artist

Andrew Holmes’ drawing and photography investigates place and human presence in the landscape. His photo-realistic colored pencil drawings often depict gas-run vehicles in industrial landscapes with finely-rendered surface detail. In recent years Holmes has turned increasingly to photography. His night photographs explore mysterious low-contrast textures in landscapes at sites in Europe and the U.S..

Andrew Holmes is a Professor of Architecture at Oxford’s Brookes University, Guest Professor at the TU Berlin, and a Visiting Scholar at the Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles. Throughout his 40-year career, Holmes is known for two bodies of work he calls Arrangements and Nonuments, organized under the principle of Informalism. He currently lives and works in London.
