About the Artist

Ben Jones’ artwork bridges old and new with day-glow fun. In his Cinema Paintings, cyber-psychedelic animations are projected onto geometric abstraction, merging still and moving image. In TV Paintings, animations loop on flatscreen TVs, set behind high-chroma-painted lattice-like MDF, the shapes and colors of the animation interacting with the overlayed frame. His Ladder Series paintings evoke squiggly double helix, Mario Brothers and Postminimalism. Brick motifs painted on walls and sculptural objects (including a functional ping pong table), and Smoking Chimneys flesh out the phantasmagoria of Ben Jones’ vision.

Jones has exhibited with Ace Gallery since 2015. He was included in “Transmission LA,” at MOCA Geffin in 2012, and presented a solo exhibition at MOCA’s Pacific Design Center also in 2012. His work was featured in a solo exhibition at Dietch Project in 2009 entitled “New Dark Ages,” and numerous other exhibitions and screenings including: Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (solo); Loyal Gallery, Malmö (solo); Foxy Productions, New York (solo); Andreas Melas Presents, Athens (solo); Peres Projects, Berlin; Pace Wildenstein, New York; CANADA, New York; Green on Red Gallery, Dublin; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; Tate Britain, London; Musee d’ Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris/ARC, Paris; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco; and The Liverpool Biennial, Liverpool.

Jones is founding member of the artist collective Paper Rad– known for its fast-paced pixel-aesthetic multi-media contributions to early net art. He is also known for Paper Radio, a vanguard zine project with Christopher Forgues.

Jones is also the creator of the Cartoon Network animation Problem Solverz, and Stone Quakers on FXX Animation Domination High-Def.
