A sense of time and material change permeate the works of David Amico, who has been pursuing a non-serial approach to abstract oil painting from his studio in Downtown Los Angeles since the 1980s. Taking inspiration from cycles of entropy and the urban environment, Amico’s compositions draw on a range of painterly possibilities, including: textural impastos, loose washes, scumbled, scraped and smeared application, and nuanced color—from delicate to strident.
David Amico is a professor at Claremont Graduate University and has been exhibiting with Ace Gallery since 1987.
