Millie Brown explores body, mind and spirit in her post-feminist approach to endurance performance. In Rainbow Body, Brown creates paintings suggestive of Abstract Expressionism by ingesting colored almond milk and vomiting onto the canvas. Other works feature tableaux in which Brown presents herself suspended or in recline for extended periods during which she enters a meditative state and offers herself as a subject for contemplation.
“Viewing the body as a vessel for spiritual practice, Brown pushes her physical and mental boundaries to reach a state of enlightenment from which creative expression and healing derives.”
Brown was a founding member of London’s !WOWOW! Collective and is widely known for her collaboration with Lady Gaga in the Monster Ball Tour. She made her first vomit painting on a Berlin stage at age 17.
