Peter Alexander came to prominence in the 1960s Los Angeles art scene with geometric resin sculptures of simple forms and transparent hues. Associated with the Light and Space movement, Alexander was included in the Getty’s groundbreaking Pacific Standard Time initiative which brought attention to the seminal work of Southern Californian artists of the 1950s forward. In addition to his work with resins, Alexander has produced significant bodies of work in drawing and painting which focus on color and light, some in a language of gestural abstraction, others residing in the territory of landscape painting.
Peter Alexander’s pieces are held in numerous private and public collections including the Broad Foundation, Santa Monica; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; Museum of Modern Art, New York, Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego and Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York.
